Women often worry that losing weight will cause their boobs to shrink, but that is usually untrue. Boobs are primarily made of fat, and as you lose body fat, some of that will come from your chest.

But you can limit the impact of weight loss on your boobs with targeted exercises and diet.

1. Exercise

Everyone’s breast composition is different and genetics play a significant role. Whether you have fatty or dense breasts, their structure and skin tone can change with age, pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss and even exercise. Aiming for a healthy weight loss and regular exercise is the best way to retain your boobs’ shape and firmness.

According to fitness expert and celebrity trainer Deanne Panday, who’s worked with celebrities like Bipasha Basu and Jacqueline Fernandez, a combination of exercises and right nutrition will help you lose weight without losing your boobs. The key is to focus on cardio and strength training, i.e., cardio to burn calories and build your heart muscles and strengthen and tone the chest muscle (pectoral), which will add volume to your boobs. Doing upper-body workouts like chin-ups, barbell bench presses and bent-forward cable crossovers also helps build the chest wall and tighten your boobs.

Apart from these, consuming foods rich in vitamin C may also reduce sagging of the breasts. Increased water intake will keep the skin hydrated, which will make it look smooth and bouncier. If you’re dealing with stretch marks, a good massage will also improve the tone and appearance of the skin in this area. In addition, opting for a well-fitting bra will support your boobs’ shape and reduce the strain on their skin.

2. Diet

If you want to lose weight in your boobs, it is important to do both diet and exercise. Exercising to tone the pectoral muscles and to burn excess fat in the chest area can reduce your cup size. Try doing 20-minute sessions of jogging or swimming to tone the body and burn calories. Also, incorporating some strength training exercises that target the chest can help build the chest muscles to give your breasts a lift. A diet low in carbohydrates and fatty foods can contribute to overall weight loss that will shrink your boobs. Drinking nondairy flax seed milk and using ground flaxseed as an egg replacer can also return elasticity to the skin in the breast area.

4. Massage

Besides chest exercises, massage can be one of the best ways to lose weight in your boobs. It increases circulation in the breast tissue and boosts blood flow in the area, keeping them healthy. It also helps reduce stretch marks and improve skin elasticity. It is also an effective way to re-energize nipple muscles if you are breastfeeding.

HEALING FOR BLOOD CELLS: By stimulating the circulation in the mammary glands, breast massage releases oxytocin (the love hormone) into the body. This is the same feel-good hormone that is triggered by nursing and hugging. It reduces depression, elevates mood and brings a feeling of love and connection to the self.

It CAN ENLARGE BREASTS: Breasts are made up of fat-storing tissue and a layer of connective tissue. Regular breast massage can increase blood circulation in this tissue and enlarge your breasts by triggering the secretion of a natural hormone called prolactin.

To begin a breast massage, start by warming your hands with or without oil. Place your hands on the front of each breast, grabbing the tissue gently with your fingers and pressing inwards towards the outline of the nipple. Repeat this process for 10 reps on each side of your breast.
